Luna is quite the looker
and a highly anticipated doeling out of James' favorite doe, Stormi.
Luna resembles her sire, Newly, with her tremendous general appearance,
dairy strength and style. She is just so smoothly blended, something we
are seeing in all of Newly's offspring.
Luna's dam is James' favorite and only daughter of his precious, Rue.
Stormi was injured this past summer. We returned from a county fair in
MN and she was put back in the same pen as normal and her penmates must
have decided they resented her. When we found her she had been jammed
into a corner and repeatedly slammed in the legs resulting in badly
damaged hocks. Her recovery was slow and she will always have damage to
her hocks so this was a very precious kid.
Luna was a tiny kid, the only doe of triplets, and it took her awhile to
grow. For some reason, she was not a great milk drinker which slowed her
growth and she didn't take to the grain very quickly. What she did love
and still does love is her hay. She found that if she laid in a certain
position under the hay feeder she could eat non-stop. In the last
few weeks she had decided that she can now eat grain and is starting to
catch up with the rest of the kids.
We are excited about this stylish young doe as she matures. I think she
is going to be a true beauty for James given time. She will be a dry
yearling for 2027 and I think will be an eye catcher in the ring! |
